Advanced Defence Laboratory Opens New Frontiers for Ethiopia’s AI, Technology and Security Innovation – Defense Minister
Addis Ababa, July 26, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Defence Minister Aisha Mohammed said the Advanced Central Research Laboratory inaugurated by the country’s Defence University will accelerate the Ethiopian Defence Force’s comprehensive modernization journey.
The Ethiopian Defence University inaugurated the state-of-the-art laboratory, which is expected to open a new chapter in defence education, research and technology development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Defence Minister described the facility as a major milestone in advancing education, scientific research and institutional capacity.
She said the laboratory goes beyond the installation of advanced technological equipment, as it is designed to transform knowledge into professional competence, research into innovation, and innovation into practical solutions.
The Minister said the opening of this new chapter of excellence was made possible by the longstanding friendship, mutual trust and strategic partnership between Ethiopia and the United Arab Emirates.
She noted that the historic relations between the two countries have advanced beyond diplomatic and economic cooperation toward a higher level of partnership that enhances national security, technology transfer and institutional modernization.
The laboratory, she added, will contribute not only through material support but also through knowledge transfer, scientific research and the development of indigenous technological capabilities, creating a lasting legacy in shaping future generations.
Aisha said the facility will accelerate the Ethiopian Defence Force’s comprehensive modernization efforts, strengthen the country’s technology and research foundation, and serve as a significant step toward ensuring future national security on a stronger foundation.
The Defence Minister also expressed appreciation to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for its support in infrastructure development aimed at enhancing and modernizing the institution’s capacity, as well as for its continued friendship with Ethiopia.
