PM Abiy reaffirms Ethiopia’s commitment to AI and digital health collaboration across Africa

Addis Ababa, April 23, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to sharing its experience and forging strong partnerships in artificial intelligence and digital health across Africa.

In a social media post following his meeting with Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the Prime Minister noted that the discussion covered a range of priorities, including his newly entrusted responsibility as African Union Champion for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Health.

He emphasized that innovation remains a bedrock of Africa’s progress. According to him, as health challenges continue to evolve, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence and digital technologies will be essential in strengthening health systems, expanding access, and delivering better outcomes for people across the continent.

“Ethiopia remains committed to sharing its experience across the continent and forging strong partnerships to effectively adapt to a rapidly evolving technological landscape,” the Prime Minister stated.

He added that he looks forward to working closely with Africa CDC and partners across the continent to translate this vision into tangible, inclusive impact.
