Prosperity Party Vice President Calls on African Political Parties to Translate Addis Ababa Declaration into Action

Addis Ababa, November 7, 2026 (FMC) — Vice President of Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party, Adem Farah, has called on African political parties to translate the commitments adopted at the Second African Political Parties Summit into practical action, emphasizing sustained cooperation, implementation and accountability in advancing the continent’s development.

Delivering closing remarks at the Summit in Addis Ababa today, the Prosperity Party Vice President said the gathering had reaffirmed the shared responsibility of African political parties to transform the continent’s potential into opportunity and prosperity.

He noted that the formal adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration had provided a common direction for the commitments reached during the Summit, while an implementation and reporting pathway would enable participating parties to assess progress, exchange experiences and account for their collective efforts at the next African Political Parties Summit.

On behalf of the Prosperity Party, he congratulated the newly elected leadership of the African Political Parties Initiative (APPI), pledging dedicated service in his capacity as its Executive Secretary.

He said the initiative would promote inclusive cooperation and work with participating parties to advance their shared objectives.

The Prosperity Party Vice President reaffirmed his party’s commitment to implementing the Summit’s outcomes and expressed confidence that fellow political parties would demonstrate similar commitment to ensuring the agreements reached in Addis Ababa produce lasting results.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the African Governance Centre, participating political parties, the African Union, partners, organizers and volunteers in making the gathering successful.

Reflecting on the Summit’s deliberations, he said the successful Women and Youth Forums, alongside discussions held under the theme “Governing for Growth: Political Parties as Architects of Africa’s Economic Future,” had provided an important platform for shared learning and renewed continental purpose.

He expressed hope that delegates had enjoyed their stay in Addis Ababa and experienced Ethiopia’s hospitality, describing the city as their second home.

He further called for the spirit of Medemer to strengthen cooperation among African countries and for the legacy of the Victory of Adwa to inspire efforts to build a continent whose sovereignty rests on capable institutions and flourishing peoples.

The Second African Political Parties Summit, which began in Addis Ababa on November 6, concluded today with the adoption of the Addis Ababa Declaration and commitments aimed at advancing cooperation among political parties across the continent. Women’s and youth forums were also held alongside the main Summit.
