Addis Ababa, May 21, 2026 (FMC) — Addis Ababa City Administration has inaugurated the Addis Eco Multipurpose Public Recreation Park, a newly developed public leisure facility constructed in the Asko Addis Sefer area of Addis Ketema Sub-city.
Mayor Adanech Abiebie officially opened the park for public service on Thursday, describing the project as part of the city’s ongoing efforts to expand inclusive and accessible recreational spaces for residents.
According to the mayor, the 30,000-square-meter site had previously been neglected and used as a dumping ground, while also becoming an area vulnerable to illegal activities. She said the location has now been transformed into a clean, modern, and environmentally friendly public recreation center for the community.
In a message shared on her social media platforms, Mayor Adanech said the newly inaugurated facility was designed to serve residents from all walks of life by creating a safe and attractive environment where children, youth, adults, and elderly citizens can spend time together.
The Addis Eco Multipurpose Public Recreation Park includes a range of modern amenities such as a fountain, football field, children’s playground, amphitheater, cafeteria, shops, juice bar, parking area, modern shower and toilet facilities, and spacious walking tracks.
The mayor noted that the project was completed with a strong focus on quality, accessibility, and urban beautification, adding that the park is expected to provide an alternative recreational destination for residents in the surrounding areas.
She also called on the public to responsibly utilize and preserve the facility to ensure its long-term benefit for the community.
