Addis Ababa, September 3, 2026 (FMC) — Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to play a greater role in advancing global governance and building a more just and equitable international order, TV BRICS reported, citing its Chinese media partner Xinhua.
Addressing the 26th Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State and the SCO Plus meeting in Bishkek, Xi said the organization should take greater initiative in shaping international affairs at a critical juncture for humanity.
He called for stronger cooperation among SCO members to pursue higher-quality development, improve global governance and advance the building of a community with a shared future for humanity.
Xi also urged the organization to promote greater equality and fairness in global governance and contribute to an equal and orderly multipolar world.
He emphasized an action-oriented approach to addressing global challenges, highlighting the SCO’s role in strengthening multilateral cooperation and contributing to a more balanced international system.
