Addis Ababa, July 26, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has launched the third round of the nationwide Clean Ethiopia Movement under the theme “Clean Ethiopia for Generations,” renewing the country’s commitment to reducing environmental pollution, promoting sustainable development and ensuring a clean environment for current and future generations.
The three-month campaign officially commenced in the Afar Region, with a focus on addressing key environmental challenges, including plastic pollution, chemical contamination and noise pollution.
Ethiopia Environmental Protection Authority Director General Lelise Neme said the previous two rounds of the movement enabled the country to reach broad sections of society and enhance public engagement in environmental protection efforts.
She noted that the latest phase of the movement will continue strengthening public awareness and collective action to address environmental challenges.
Stressing that development activities must be carried out in an environmentally responsible manner, Lelise emphasized the importance of protecting Ethiopia’s natural environment and ensuring that a clean Ethiopia is preserved and passed on to future generations.
The third phase of the Clean Ethiopia Movement comes as Ethiopia continues to intensify efforts to reduce pollution, promote sustainable environmental practices and encourage nationwide participation in safeguarding the environment.
As part of the campaign, the Ethiopia Environmental Protection Authority, in collaboration with the Ethiopian Artificial Intelligence Institute, has introduced a digital environmental pollution reporting system.
The platform enables citizens to report environmental pollution, chemical hazards and dangerous waste by submitting videos, photos and written information directly through the application.
The digital reporting system is expected to strengthen public participation, improve the identification of environmental challenges and support timely responses to pollution-related issues.
The application allows citizens to contribute to environmental protection efforts from wherever they are and is available through the Play Store and App Store.
The Clean Ethiopia Movement continues to serve as a national platform aimed at building a culture of environmental responsibility and ensuring that Ethiopia’s environment is protected for generations to come.
