Addis Ababa, June 13, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said civic engagement played a key role in the successful conduct of the 7th General Election.

Deputy PM Temesgen Tiruneh attended the national recognition and appreciation ceremony alongside President Taye Atske-Selassie, where civil society organizations, political parties, and stakeholders were honored for their role in the successful conduct of the electoral process.

In a social media post after the event, the Deputy Prime Minister said the 7th General Election demonstrated the growing strength of Ethiopia’s democratic culture, the maturity of civic engagement, and the resilience of institutions built collectively.

The Deputy PM noted that the election showed political competition can be conducted peacefully and responsibly through the will of the people expressed at the ballot box, adding that it reinforced confidence in democratic processes and underscored the importance of dialogue, participation, and respect for constitutional institutions.

He commended the contribution of civil society organizations and political parties throughout the process, describing it as significant.

Deputy Temesgen said Ethiopia remains committed to building a country where lasting peace is anchored in mutual understanding, respect for democratic values, and a shared commitment to the nation’s future.

He added that the government will continue to strengthen support for civil society and political institutions, enhance their capacity, and expand democratic space to ensure citizens can fully participate in shaping the country’s future.

Mr. Temesgen further noted that the progress achieved should be seen not as an endpoint, but as a foundation for building a more peaceful, democratic, and prosperous Ethiopia.
