Addis Ababa, May 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh said the “Made in Ethiopia” initiative has become a cornerstone of the country’s sovereignty and a key driver of national prosperity, as Ethiopia intensifies efforts to strengthen its industrial and manufacturing capacity.
The Deputy Prime Minister made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the 4th “Made in Ethiopia” International Expo, held at the Addis International Convention Center last night.
In a message shared following the event, Temesgen stated that Ethiopia’s industrial sector is steadily emerging as a major engine of economic growth and national transformation.
He noted that the exhibition demonstrated the country’s expanding manufacturing potential through growing innovation, improved product quality, and a strengthening industrial base.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, genuine national independence can only be achieved through production, emphasizing that the “Made in Ethiopia” initiative is already contributing to reducing import dependence, expanding industrial productivity, and fostering a stronger culture of work and manufacturing.
Temesgen stressed that sustaining manufacturing as a central pillar of Ethiopia’s economy requires three critical elements: a strong industrial vision, investors committed to long-term value creation, and leadership guided by integrity and practical solutions.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the manufacturing sector through enabling policies and sustained institutional backing.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said the next edition of the “Made in Ethiopia” Expo will be larger and more impactful, with broader opportunities for innovation, ideas, and industrial growth.
