Addis Ababa, July 25, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) remains a shield against historical and contemporary threats facing Ethiopia, Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula said today.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the 71st Metema Course officer cadets trained by the Ethiopian Military Academy in Holota, the Chief of Staff said Ethiopia has faced various challenges from historical adversaries and internal forces over time, but the ENDF has continued to safeguard the country through resilience and sacrifice.
Field Marshal Berhanu said the efforts of forces seeking to undermine Ethiopia have been foiled by the courage and commitment of the defense forces, emphasizing that the country has overcome successive challenges through the dedication of its citizens and security institutions.
The Ethiopian Military Academy graduated officer cadets who completed the 71st Metema Course, with senior defense officials, retired military officers, and military attachés from various countries attending the ceremony.
During the event, Chief of Staff Field Marshal Berhanu Jula awarded ranks to cadets who achieved outstanding results during their training.
Commander of the Ethiopian Military Academy Brigadier General Getachew Habtamu said the training provided to the graduating cadets was designed to enhance comprehensive leadership capabilities and equip them with the knowledge and skills required to carry out military missions.
He noted that the academy continues to modernize its curriculum in line with contemporary demands, contributing to the professional development of the defense force.
The Chief of Staff also reminded the new officers that the knowledge and skills gained through training would be strengthened through practical experience in their respective military units, urging them to apply their capabilities in service of the country.
In addition to Ethiopian cadets, African officer candidates from various countries also completed their training and graduated from the academy.
