Ethiopia and European Union reinforce strategic partnership to advance economic cooperation

Addis Ababa, April 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the European Union have reaffirmed their strategic partnership during high-level talks held on the sidelines of the 2026 Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C., with discussions focusing on expanding economic cooperation and supporting ongoing reforms.

The East African nation’s Finance Minister Mr. Ahmed Shide met with EU Commissioner for International Partnerships Mr. Jozef Síkela, where both sides reviewed areas of collaboration and aligned on priority development sectors.

The discussions focused on scaling up cooperation in support of Ethiopia’s reform agenda, climate resilience, improvements to the investment climate, and broader sustainable growth objectives.

Both sides reaffirmed their longstanding partnership and underscored a shared commitment to deepen engagement and advance cooperation toward concrete outcomes with mutual economic benefits.
