Addis Ababa, November 3, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia is commemorating the November 3, 2020 treacherous attack launched by the rump TPLF group on the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) Northern Command, honoring the soldiers who lost their lives and reaffirming the national resolve to remember the betrayal so that such a tragedy never happens again.
The annual commemoration recalls the attack on the Northern Command, whose troops were stationed in Tigray carrying out their national duties. The attack, launched by the TPLF on November 3, 2020, is remembered as a brutal betrayal of the national defense force by a group whose members had once served alongside the soldiers they attacked.
The occasion pays tribute to ENDF members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of Ethiopia’s sovereignty, unity and national dignity. It also honors the soldiers who endured harsh conditions and immense hardships while serving the country, often far from their families, to safeguard the nation.
The commemoration also recalls the suffering and destruction caused by the TPLF’s attack and underscores the importance of preserving the lessons of that dark chapter in Ethiopia’s history.
Carried under the message, “We will always remember so that it never happens again,” the observance honors the fallen while reaffirming that the treachery against the Northern Command must never be forgotten.
