Ethiopia, Mozambique Sign Wide-Ranging MoUs to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Addis Ababa, April 27, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Mozambique have taken significant steps to deepen their bilateral relations through the signing of a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) following high-level engagements between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Daniel Francisco Chapo in Addis Ababa.

The agreements cover a broad spectrum of cooperation areas, including military training, urbanization and housing, health, civil aviation, tourism, and digital transformation, with specific emphasis on Digital ID systems and Digital Public Infrastructure.

The frameworks are designed to advance structured collaboration and support long-term institutional and sectoral development between the two countries.

The signing of the MoUs comes after a series of official engagements held since President Chapo’s arrival in Ethiopia for an official working visit, which included a welcoming ceremony and discussions aimed at expanding cooperation across multiple fields of mutual interest.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed described the engagement as part of a growing and practical partnership between Ethiopia and Mozambique.

“I held a fruitful bilateral meeting with President Daniel Francisco Chapo of Mozambique, marking the beginning of a long-lasting and tangible partnership,” he noted.

He noted that the agreements reflect a shift from dialogue to structured implementation across key development areas.

He further emphasized Ethiopia’s continued commitment to strengthening cooperation with African partners by sharing experience, building capacity, and advancing shared development objectives through mutually beneficial collaboration.

The Prime Minister asserted, “Together, we are turning our shared African potential into transformative reality.”
