Ethiopia, Vietnam Mark 50 Years of Diplomatic Relations, Reaffirm Expanding Cooperation

Addis Ababa, June 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and Vietnam have marked 50 years of formal diplomatic relations, reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation across political, economic, and development sectors, according to diplomatic communications shared this week.

Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Vietnam, Dessie Dalkie Dukamo, said the long-standing partnership between the two countries continues to expand, anchored in mutual respect, political trust, and shared development aspirations.

As part of the anniversary commemorations, Vietnam’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Le Anh Tuan, extended congratulations to the Government and people of Ethiopia, commending the peaceful and credible conduct of Ethiopia’s 7th National General Election.

The statement highlighted Vietnam’s appreciation of Ethiopia’s ongoing democratic and governance processes, describing the election as a significant national milestone reflecting broad citizen participation in shaping the country’s political future.

The two countries also noted growing momentum in bilateral cooperation, including expanding trade relations and enhanced connectivity. A key development in this regard is the introduction of direct air services between Hanoi and Addis Ababa, expected to further facilitate travel, commerce, and institutional exchanges.

Ethiopia and Vietnam have steadily strengthened relations over the past five decades, with increasing engagement in areas of mutual benefit and continued coordination in regional and multilateral platforms.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the partnership in the years ahead.
