Addis Ababa, May 15, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said broad public participation has played a significant role in strengthening Ethiopia’s national dialogue process, as the initiative transitions into its next phase aimed at delivering tangible outcomes.
The Prime Minister made the remarks during a high-level gathering held today to review the progress of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission since its establishment. The meeting brought together senior federal and regional government officials and included a tribute to the late Commissioner Zegeye Asfaw, who recently passed away.
In a message shared following the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy expressed appreciation to the commissioners for their patient and professional service, noting that they had worked with a high standard of ethics to advance the national dialogue process to its current stage.
He emphasized that fostering a culture of dialogue is essential for countries like Ethiopia, adding that building a strong civic culture requires continuous engagement, discussion, and mutual understanding.
According to the Prime Minister, the process has so far reflected the views and outcomes of discussions involving more than 90 percent of Ethiopians across the country, demonstrating the importance of mutual listening at all levels of society.
As the national dialogue process moves into a new phase focused on producing concrete results, the Prime Minister called on all stakeholders to contribute constructively and maintain a shared commitment to peace, unity, and lasting national stability.
