Addis Ababa, August 6, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Conference has reached new milestones as participants continue structured deliberations aimed at addressing key national issues and fostering shared understanding.
The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission said the ongoing conference, which began on July 15, is progressing in line with its established methodology, with broad participation from different segments of Ethiopian society.
Nearly 4,000 participants representing regional stakeholders, woreda-level constituencies, political parties, religious institutions, government bodies, civil society organizations, women, youth, the Ethiopian diaspora, and other organized groups are taking part in the deliberations.
Discussions are being conducted around eight nationally identified agenda items, with participants assigned to thematic groups dedicated to examining specific issues in depth. The Commission said this approach has enabled focused discussions, broader reflection, and meaningful engagement among participants.
The dialogue has progressed through a structured process involving small-group discussions, sub-group deliberations, and strategic-level engagements to help participants exchange perspectives, identify common ground, and refine differing views.
The Commission also said 330 representatives have been elected from regional states, city administrations, federal institutions, and various stakeholder groups to participate in the conference’s decision-making structures.
The process is being supported by 80 independent experts, 160 facilitators, and 158 rapporteurs to provide technical support, guide discussions, and document outcomes.
The Commission said observers from professional associations and civil society organizations are also attending the conference to contribute to transparency and public confidence as the dialogue advances.
