Addis Ababa, May 3, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has highlighted gains from Ethiopia’s industrial strategy, noting that the country has achieved billions of dollars in savings through import substitution alongside broader manufacturing sector expansion, following the opening of the 4th ‘Made in Ethiopia’ Expo.
The Prime Minister officially launched the 4th edition of “Made in Ethiopia” (Ethiopia Tamrt) expo in Addis Ababa today.
In a social media message shared after the opening event, the Prime Minister said: “Four Years of Sustained Effort and Measurable Progress! It is truly an honor to witness the tangible realization of our national vision at this year’s ‘Made in Ethiopia’ Expo.”
He emphasized that the government’s results-driven governance has underpinned notable industrial expansion, stating: “Our results-driven governance is reflected in unprecedented industrial expansion, highlighted by average production capacity utilization soaring from 47% to 67%, the attraction of over 2,800 domestic and foreign direct investments over the past four years, and more than $4.85 billion in foreign exchange saved through import substitution in the first nine months of the 2018 fiscal year alone.”
The Prime Minister further underscored the role of the Expo in bringing together industry actors, stating: “This expo unites hundreds of dynamic enterprises and innovative startups from across the nation.”
He also stressed the importance of sustaining momentum for long-term transformation, saying: “By working together and sustaining this powerful momentum, we will build a resilient, industrialized, and self-reliant Ethiopia for generations to come.”
The Prime Minister further added, “We Were Great and We Shall Be Even Greater!” alongside the hashtag #EthiopiaDelivers.
