EU–Ethiopia Business Forum Opens in Addis Ababa to Boost Investment, Deepen Economic Partnership

Addis Ababa, April 20, 2026 (FMC) — The European Union and Ethiopia today officially opened the EU–Ethiopia Business Forum in Addis Ababa, a major platform aimed at accelerating investment flows and strengthening economic ties between the two partners.

Held under the theme “Unlocking the Global Gateway Potential,” the forum runs from April 20 to 22 and brings together more than 500 European and Ethiopian companies, alongside senior government officials, investors, and business leaders.

The forum is designed to translate Ethiopia’s ongoing economic reforms and growth momentum into concrete investment opportunities, while advancing long-term cooperation in key sectors critical to sustainable development.

Participants are engaging in high-level discussions, thematic sessions, and business-to-business matchmaking, with a focus on priority areas such as digital transformation, clean energy, health, and sustainable agri-food value chains.

The initiative also seeks to strengthen public–private dialogue and connect European and Ethiopian businesses to foster new partnerships and unlock financing opportunities.

Ambassador of the European Union to Ethiopia, Sofie From-Emmesberger, reaffirmed the bloc’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s economic transformation through expanded business and investment engagement.

The forum comes as EU–Ethiopia trade relations have reached some of their strongest levels in recent years, with around 300 European companies already operating in the country.
