National Dialogue Commission reports 93% nationwide agenda coverage

Addis Ababa, May 15, 2026 (FMC) — The Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission announced that it has completed agenda collection and identification activities in 1,234 woredas across the country, covering 93 percent of Ethiopia, as it outlined priorities for the next phase of the national dialogue process during a high-level review meeting held today.

The implementation report was presented in the presence of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, senior federal and regional government officials, and members of the Standing Committee of the House of Peoples’ Representatives.

During the session, the Commission presented the major activities undertaken since the launch of the national dialogue process, challenges encountered during implementation, and corrective measures introduced to address them. It also highlighted the roles expected from various stakeholders to ensure the process proceeds as planned.

According to the report, the Commission has finalized the identification of inclusive and participatory dialogue representatives across the country, alongside the nationwide agenda collection process.

The Commission further disclosed that it conducted 22 rounds of consultations with key stakeholders. However, it noted that consultations could not be carried out in districts of the Tigray Region due to unfavorable conditions.

To ensure broader inclusion, the Commission organized agenda collection and identification sessions in Addis Ababa involving stakeholders from across the Tigray Region, as well as members of the Tigray community residing in different parts of the country.

As part of the next phase of the process, the Commission identified strengthening the participation of political actors, formulating national dialogue agendas, conducting the national dialogue conference, and facilitating the implementation of nationally agreed recommendations and outcomes as key priorities.

The high-level review meeting also paid tribute to the late Zegeye Asfaw, Commissioner of the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, who recently passed away.
