Addis Ababa, June 12, 2026 (FMC) – President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Taye Atske Selassie, today received Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches at the Vatican, and Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel, Catholic Archbishop of Addis Ababa, for discussions on the Catholic Church’s contributions to social and humanitarian services in Ethiopia.
President Taye commended the Catholic Church for its longstanding role in supporting communities across Ethiopia through its social and humanitarian initiatives.
He also reaffirmed the Ethiopian government’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Catholic Church in advancing efforts to serve communities and promote social welfare, according to the Office of the President.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening collaboration in humanitarian and social development initiatives.
