Addis Ababa, July 1, 2026 (FMC) — The official Chinese translation of “Medemer,” the book authored by Ethiopia‘s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, is nearing completion and is expected to be available to readers soon, according to updates on the ongoing translation process.
Medemer, developed as a guiding philosophy for Ethiopia’s national transformation following the 2018 reform period, has continued to attract international attention as translation efforts expand its global reach.
Originally published in Amharic and later translated into Afan Oromo and English, the Medemer book has also been made available in Arabic and Urdu.
With the completion of the Chinese version, Medemer is set to enter one of the world’s most widely spoken language communities, marking another milestone in its international dissemination.
Observers note that the translation into Chinese carries significance beyond linguistic accessibility, reflecting growing global interest in Ethiopia’s homegrown philosophical framework.
China, with its long intellectual tradition and evolving governance philosophies shaped by thinkers and leaders from Mao Zedong to Deng Xiaoping and Xi Jinping, represents a major platform for cross-cultural and ideological exchange.
The development is viewed as part of Ethiopia’s broader shift from primarily receiving external ideological frameworks to contributing indigenous perspectives to global discourse.
