Addis Ababa, May 26, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party has concluded its nationwide election campaign rallies across various cities and towns as the country approaches the 7th general elections, set to take place on June 1, 2026.
On the final day of campaigning, large-scale rallies and support programs were held across multiple parts of the country, including major cities and regional towns such as Addis Ababa, Hawassa, Arba Minch, Gondar, Dilla, Wolayta Sodo, Gambella, Debre Markos, Dessie, Bahir Dar, Kombolcha, Debre Birhan, Metema, and several other urban and semi-urban centers, drawing tens of thousands of supporters.
In Addis Ababa, the main closing rally was held at Meskel Square in the presence of senior party and city officials, including Addis Ababa City Mayor and Prosperity Party Executive Committee member Adanech Abiebie, Deputy Mayor Jantrar Abay, and Prosperity Party Addis Ababa Branch Office Head Moges Balcha, alongside candidates, party members, and supporters.
Addressing the gathering, Mayor Adanech Abiebie said the upcoming election represents a key moment for Ethiopians to demonstrate their commitment to democratic processes and peaceful political participation. She emphasized that the Prosperity Party has chosen elections as the only legitimate means of securing political power.
She stated that “power is not taken by force or distributed like food, but is given by the people through their vote,” underscoring that elections remain central to democracy and development.
Mayor Adanech further described the Prosperity Party as “a party of action that has fulfilled its promises,” noting that the ongoing development in Addis Ababa reflects the implementation of the party’s vision. She added that, if re-elected in the 7th general elections, the party would intensify its development agenda.
Across the country, similar campaign rallies and support programs were also reported from other cities and towns, including regional capitals and zonal centers, where party members, candidates, youth, women, and community members participated in large numbers under the theme “Transforming Ethiopia into a Model Country.”
In Hawassa, senior regional leaders including Sidama Region President Desta Ledamo and Prosperity Party officials attended campaign events highlighting development achievements and future priorities.
In Arba Minch, Dilla, Wolayta Sodo, and Gambella, residents expressed support through rallies and messages emphasizing solidarity and development, while in Gondar, Bahir Dar, Dessie, and surrounding areas, participants echoed slogans focusing on education, digital transformation, peace, and national unity.
Party officials stated that the campaign activities were conducted in line with directives issued by the National Election Board of Ethiopia, with participation from candidates, regional leaders, and supporters across all levels of society.
As Ethiopia moves closer to its 7th general elections, the Prosperity Party has concluded its nationwide campaign mobilization, with officials expressing confidence in its political program and calling on citizens to participate peacefully in the electoral process.
