While Ethiopia is striving to achieve lasting peace through the National Dialogue, conducted with the participation of representatives from across the country, the TPLF rump group has once again chosen a path of confrontation and provocation.
The group’s actions constitute a challenge to the law of the land, the Pretoria Peace Agreement, and Ethiopia’s peace efforts.
Instead of embracing dialogue, the TPLF rump group has continued beating the drums of war through renewed provocations and actions that threaten stability.
Recent reported military movements around the nearby North Wollo Zone of the Amhara region represent a serious act of provocation.
The group’s leaders’ efforts to establish alliances with other armed groups operating in different parts of the country further raise concerns over attempts to prepare for another devastating conflict.
The federal government has continued to demonstrate its commitment to peace, dialogue, and ending hostilities, repeatedly emphasizing peaceful engagement as the way to address differences.
The international community must recognize these efforts and should not overlook actions that risk undermining Ethiopia’s peace process.
The TPLF rump group’s war-oriented approach risks plunging the region into another period of chaos and instability.
