Addis Ababa, September 22, 2026 (FMC) — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has commended Ethiopia’s trajectory toward sustainable development and reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to continue supporting the country’s preparations to host COP32.
President Taye Atske-Selassie held talks with Secretary-General Guterres in New York on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the discussions, Guterres commended Ethiopia’s progress toward sustainable development and reaffirmed the United Nations’ readiness to continue supporting the country’s preparations for COP32, which Ethiopia is set to host in Addis Ababa in 2027.
The two sides also exchanged views on regional peace and security and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation in advancing development across the Horn of Africa.
The talks further highlighted the importance of sustained Ethiopia-UN cooperation in addressing regional priorities and supporting development efforts across the Horn of Africa.
