Bahir Dar Readies to Host Africa’s Security Forum as Amhara Police Finalizes Security Plan

Addis Ababa, October 20, 2026 (FMC) — Bahir Dar is preparing to welcome African and international delegates for the 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa, with the Amhara Regional Police saying a coordinated security framework is in place for the continental gathering.

The forum, scheduled for October 23–25, will bring discussions on Africa’s peace and security challenges to the shores of Lake Tana under the theme “Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation.”

Deputy Commissioner General Zeleke Alebachew, head of the Amhara Regional Police Commission’s Operations Directorate, said preparations had been completed in coordination with federal security institutions and through engagement with local communities.

He described public cooperation with security institutions as a key factor in maintaining security during the event, adding that the situation in Bahir Dar and the wider Amhara Region had improved.

Beyond the formal sessions, arrangements have also been made for participants to visit the historic monasteries on Lake Tana and other nearby attractions, offering delegates an opportunity to experience the area’s cultural and historical heritage alongside the forum’s deliberations.

As African leaders and policy specialists gather to discuss pathways to peace, economic sovereignty and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the preparations in Bahir Dar are intended to support a secure setting for dialogue and exchange.
