CAF Invites Member Associations to Bid for Hosting Rights of AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036

Addis Ababa, July 4, 2026 (FMC) — The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially invited its 54 Member Associations to submit bids to host the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), launching the race to stage Africa’s premier football tournament.

CAF announced the invitation on Friday, stating that the bidding process will be conducted under a newly developed framework designed to ensure a transparent, credible and ethical selection process in line with international best practices. The framework was developed with the support of independent advisory firm PwC, alongside CAF’s technical, financial and legal advisers.

According to CAF, the Africa Cup of Nations remains the continent’s flagship football competition and one of the world’s biggest sporting events, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and six billion digital views globally.

The continental football governing body also noted that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.

CAF further indicated that it will continue organizing a senior men’s national team competition every year, except during FIFA World Cup years, with additional announcements regarding its national team competitions expected in due course.
