Ethiopia, AU discuss Horn peace and accelerate preparations for COP32

Addis Ababa, August 5, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia and the African Union have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation on regional peace and security while advancing preparations for the 2027 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP32), which Ethiopia is set to host.

The commitment was underscored during talks held in Addis Ababa between Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Gedion Timothewos, and Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

According to information released by the African Union, the discussions centered on peace and security developments in the Horn of Africa, as well as ongoing preparations for COP32.

The two officials emphasized the importance of close coordination between the African Union Commission and Ethiopia as the host country to ensure the successful organization of the global climate conference in 2027.

The meeting comes as Ethiopia continues to intensify preparations for COP32, a landmark event expected to bring together world leaders, policymakers, scientists and development partners to advance global climate action and reinforce international cooperation on climate resilience and sustainable development.
