Ethiopia Reaffirms Unwavering Commitment to Peace and Security in Somalia at AUSSOM Troop-Contributing Countries Summit

Addis Ababa, August 1, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting lasting peace and security in Somalia, emphasizing the need to safeguard the hard-won gains made in the fight against terrorism during the Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) held in Kampala, Uganda.

The Ethiopian delegation told the summit that Ethiopia remains firmly committed to advancing sustainable peace and stability in Somalia and the wider region.

The delegation stressed that the progress achieved through joint counterterrorism efforts must be preserved and protected from any reversal.

It also underscored that the sacrifices made by thousands of Somalis, Ethiopians, Ugandans, Kenyans, Burundians and Djiboutians who lost their lives in pursuit of peace and security should not be in vain.

Ethiopia reaffirmed its continued support for the African Union’s efforts to preserve these critical security gains and pledged to work closely with regional and international partners to promote lasting peace and stability in Somalia and across the Horn of Africa.

The delegation further recalled that members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force have served with dedication, professionalism and courage under successive African Union missions in Somalia for more than two decades, making significant sacrifices in support of regional peace and security, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
