Ethiopia, Russia reaffirm historic bonds, pledge deeper cooperation

Addis Ababa, July 7, 2026 (FMC) — Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos held talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, reaffirming the historic bonds between Ethiopia and Russia and their commitment to further deepen bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, Gedion highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two countries, noting that the ties built over generations continue to serve as a strong foundation for Ethiopia-Russia relations.

The two ministers exchanged views on current regional and global issues of mutual interest and discussed ways to expand cooperation beyond political and diplomatic relations.

They explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration in trade, investment and technology transfer, while emphasizing the importance of enhanced coordination within multilateral platforms, including BRICS.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation on shared priorities and advancing the longstanding partnership between Ethiopia and Russia.

It is to be recalled the Russian Foreign Minister has arrived in Addis Ababa last night for official working visit.
