Ethiopian Airlines Hosts Grand Cultural Showcase, Static Airshow for 80th Anniversary

Addis Ababa, May 14, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Airlines today hosted a Global Cultural Day and Static Airshow event as part of activities marking the airline’s 80th anniversary.

The event, held at Ethiopian Skylight Hotel, brought together ministers, ambassadors, Ethiopian Airlines Group executives, customers, and other invited guests.

According to the airline, the event was organized to celebrate Ethiopian Airlines’ 80 years of service and its role in connecting nations and cultures through aviation.

Speaking at the occasion, Mesfin Tasew said the airline currently transports more than 21 million passengers annually.

The CEO noted that Ethiopian Airlines currently operates 147 aircraft and serves 140 destinations across more than 80 countries, connecting people across five continents.

Mesfin said the airline has also placed orders for more than 100 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus, which are expected to be delivered between now and 2031.

“We are very proud of having such a modern fleet, which enabled us to become the most successful airline in Africa. This is a legacy we built over the years,” he said.

The event also featured a static airshow showcasing different aircraft models currently being used by the airline.
