Ethiopia’s New Medemer Government Formation Ceremony Gets Underway as 7th Parliament Takes Oath
Addis Ababa, October 5, 2026 (FMC) — The formal ceremony for the formation of Ethiopia’s new Medemer Government and the opening of the 7th parliamentary term is underway in Addis Ababa, bringing together senior government officials and invited guests.
President Taye Atske-Selassie officially opened the constituent session of the 7th term of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, formally inaugurating the work of the newly elected Parliament.
The President conveyed his congratulations and best wishes to members elected to the House in the 7th General Election as they assume their constitutional responsibilities.
The newly elected members of the House of Peoples’ Representatives have also taken their oath of office, formally assuming their parliamentary duties.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, President Taye Atske-Selassie, senior government officials and invited guests are attending the ceremony as Ethiopia proceeds with the formal formation of its new government and the inauguration of the new parliamentary term.
The proceedings are continuing with further constitutional and institutional steps toward the formal formation of the new Medemer Government.
