Ethiopia’s Commitment to Peace and Dialogue Has Earned International Recognition

Addis Ababa, October 6, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s people and government have made peace and prosperity national priorities, with the country demonstrating its readiness to engage in dialogue and pursue peaceful solutions even with hostile actors, President Taye Atske-Selassie said.

Addressing the inaugural joint session of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation on Tuesday, President Taye said Ethiopia’s willingness to talk and engage in dialogue, together with the effectiveness of the processes it has pursued, has demonstrated the country’s commitment to peace.

He noted that the international community and Ethiopia’s partners have recognized this commitment.

The President also pointed to Ethiopia’s efforts to secure reliable access to the sea through diplomacy and mutual benefit, saying the approach has laid foundations for international acceptance and legitimacy.

He said the effort demonstrates Ethiopia’s positive desire to pursue shared growth and prosperity through mutually beneficial engagement.

President Taye made the remarks while outlining the strategic direction and priorities Ethiopia should pursue in the new parliamentary term, stressing the importance of peace and prosperity to the country’s future.

He said Ethiopia’s experience in overcoming complex challenges has also shown the importance of developing new solutions through deep thinking, building on successful experiences and turning those experiences into national assets.
