Every Vote Contributes to Peace, Development, and Shared Prosperity – Deputy PM
Addis Ababa, June 1, 2026 (FMC) — Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh has said every vote cast in Ethiopia’s 7th General Election contributes to peace, development, and shared prosperity for the nation.
Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Truneh confirmed that he exercised his constitutional right as a citizen by casting his vote in Bahir Dar during the course of today’s election.
He described elections as a cornerstone of democracy, stressing that each ballot represents a meaningful contribution to national progress.
Temesgen Truneh called on citizens across the country to actively participate in the electoral process, saying every voice matters and every vote counts in shaping the nation’s future.
He added that Ethiopia is “rising through the power and participation of its people.”
Meanwhile, voting is continuing across the country in Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, with millions of citizens participating in the selection of representatives for the federal parliament and regional state councils.
Polling stations opened at dawn under the supervision of election officials, security personnel, and observers, as voters began arriving early to cast their ballots.
The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has reported that voting is progressing in most areas, with electoral materials distributed nationwide ahead of schedule and polling operations underway across thousands of stations.
The election is being conducted with participation from multiple political parties and independent candidates, with tens of millions of registered voters expected to take part in one of the country’s largest democratic exercises.
Voting, counting, and observation activities are expected to continue throughout the day as the electoral process unfolds nationwide.
