NEBE Says Voting Completed in 442 Military Camps and 82 IDP Shelters

Addis Ababa, June 9, 2026 (FMC) — The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has announced that voting has been successfully completed in 442 military camps and 82 internally displaced persons (IDP) shelters as part of the special voting arrangement for Ethiopia’s 7th General Election.

NEBE Chairperson Melatwork Hailu told reporters that citizens registered in the designated camps participated in the voting process conducted today, June 9, 2026.

She said the special voting exercise was organized in accordance with the Board’s mandate to ensure that citizens who were unable to participate in the main election held on June 1, 2026, were given an opportunity to cast their ballots.

According to the Chairperson, NEBE established dedicated polling stations for eligible voters in military camps and IDP shelters and undertook a series of preparatory activities, including training of polling staff and coordination with relevant stakeholders.

She also noted that necessary election materials were distributed in advance to all designated polling stations to ensure smooth implementation of the voting process.

Melatwork said that the voting exercise was conducted peacefully across nearly all polling stations, with only one station yet to complete its process at the time of reporting, and added that no major operational problems were recorded.

The special voting forms part of the broader conclusion of Ethiopia’s 7th General Election, which saw millions of citizens cast their ballots across the country on June 1, 2026.
