Addis Ababa, November 6, 2026 (FMC) – Prime Minister of Ethiopia and President of the ruling Prosperity Party Abiy Ahmed has underscored the need for African political parties to move beyond electoral competition and build consensus around long-term national priorities, stressing that unity, accountability and inclusive governance are essential to ensuring political leadership improves people’s lives.
The Prime Minister made the remarks today while addressing the Second African Political Parties Summit in Addis Ababa under the theme “Governing for Growth.”

He also highlighted the importance of preparing the next generation of political leaders by entrusting young leaders with responsibilities and creating opportunities for them to develop their capabilities.
In this regard, he announced that Ethiopia is opening the training programmes of the African Leadership Excellence Academy to political parties across the continent, providing an opportunity to strengthen leadership capacity and exchange experiences.
“Our responsibility to build a better future for our people shall continue!” the Prime Minister stated.
