PM Abiy Appoints 62 State Ministers as Ethiopia Advances Formation of Medemer Government
Addis Ababa, October 10, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has appointed 62 state ministers across Ethiopia’s federal ministries and government institutions, marking a major step in the ongoing formation of the Medemer Government.
The appointments cover a broad range of portfolios, including finance, agriculture, foreign affairs, defense, peace, justice, trade and regional integration, industry, innovation and technology, water and energy, urban development and infrastructure, mining, health, education, logistics, women and social affairs, revenue, national strategy, labor and skills, irrigation and lowlands, culture and tourism, and youth and sports.
The list released by the Office of the Prime Minister also includes appointments to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Government Communication Service, extending the appointments beyond sectoral ministries to key government institutions.
The appointments follow a week of major political and institutional developments in Ethiopia. On October 5, the House of Peoples’ Representatives and the House of Federation inaugurated the Seventh Parliamentary Term, with Abiy Ahmed re-elected Prime Minister for a new five-year term and subsequently sworn into office.
On October 8, the House of Peoples’ Representatives approved the new Council of Ministers, whose members took their oaths of office.
The latest appointments represent a further step in shaping the leadership structure of the Medemer Government as it begins its new five-year term.
