PM Abiy Hails Strong Results in Ethiopia’s Food Sovereignty Drive

Addis Ababa, May 6, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says the country is making strong progress in its efforts to achieve food sovereignty, citing ongoing agricultural developments in the Oromia Region.

In a social media post shared today, the Prime Minister said he toured a large-scale wheat farm in Sululta district, North Shewa Zone of Oromia region, where production is being carried out on 2,150 hectares of land.

“The effort we launched to ensure Ethiopia’s food sovereignty is continuing with strong results,” he stated.

PM Abiy noted that the farm reflects the expanding implementation of Ethiopia’s agricultural initiatives aimed at boosting domestic production and strengthening food security.
