PM Abiy Receives Former Nigerian President Obasanjo Ahead of Ethiopia’s Historic National Dialogue

Addis Ababa, July 14, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed received former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo at the National Palace in Addis Ababa ahead of Ethiopia’s historic National Dialogue.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy and the former Nigerian president discussed the upcoming National Dialogue and exchanged views on the importance of dialogue in fostering unity and lasting peace.

In a social media post following the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy said Obasanjo shared his experience from peace efforts he led, including the Biafra Peace process, noting that the lessons from such journeys offer valuable insights for Ethiopia’s pursuit of unity and sustainable peace through dialogue.

The Prime Minister expressed Ethiopia’s appreciation for Obasanjo’s contributions and support.

The most anticipated National Dialogue Conference is set to begin on July 15, 2026, in Addis Ababa, marking a significant milestone in Ethiopia’s efforts to address national issues through an inclusive and peaceful dialogue process.

The conference, organized by the Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission, will bring together around 4,000 participants from across the country and Ethiopians living abroad to deliberate on eight major agenda items identified through a nationwide consultation process, with the aim of building consensus on key national issues and strengthening unity and lasting peace.
