PM Abiy Welcomes South African President Ramaphosa to Ethiopia
Addis Ababa, October 5, 2026 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to Ethiopia today and expressed appreciation for his warm congratulations on the formation of the Medemer Government.
“Ethiopia and South Africa maintain strong and historic ties, rooted in our shared commitment to African solidarity, peace, development, and a prosperous future for our continent,” Prime Minister Abiy said in a social media post following the reception of President Ramaphosa.
The Prime Minister described President Ramaphosa as his “brother” and said Ethiopia looks forward to further deepening the partnership between the two countries and strengthening the bonds of friendship between their peoples.
President Ramaphosa’s visit comes as Ethiopia marks the formation of its new Medemer Government, bringing the leaders of two of Africa’s prominent countries together in Addis Ababa on a significant national occasion.
The Ethiopia–South Africa relationship has longstanding roots in Pan-African solidarity and cooperation, with the two countries maintaining engagement on peace, development and broader continental priorities.
