Qatar’s Amir Wishes PM Abiy Success, Stronger Bilateral Ties Following Election Victory
Addis Ababa, June 24, 2026 (FMC) – The Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has extended congratulations to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on the Prosperity Party’s victory in Ethiopia’s general elections.
In a cable of congratulations sent from Doha, the Amir conveyed his best wishes to Prime Minister Abiy, expressing hope for continued success following the electoral outcome.
The message also highlighted the outlook for Ethiopia–Qatar relations, with Sheikh Tamim wishing that bilateral cooperation between the two countries would continue to develop and grow in the period ahead.
Ethiopia’s 7th General Election was held on June 1, 2026, with the National Election Board of Ethiopia announcing the official results on June 21.
The Prosperity Party secured 438 of the 501 seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, winning a parliamentary majority and forming the federal government.
