TPLF Faction Prepares to Drag the People of Tigray Back into War
Addis Ababa, July 31, 2026 (FMC) — Since unlawfully seizing power through a coup against the Tigray Interim Regional Administration, the illegal TPLF faction has been systematically forcing the population of Tigray toward another devastating round of conflict and instability.
Rather than focusing on post-war recovery, the group’s leadership has chosen to rekindle military tensions, putting the fragile peace of the entire region at grave risk.
In stark contrast, the Federal Government of Ethiopia—consistently prioritizing peace, stability, and peaceful coexistence—has repeatedly issued calls for calm and dialogue.
The government’s ongoing peace initiatives aim to protect the people of Tigray from being drawn into yet another destructive crisis fueled by the reckless political ambitions of the TPLF leadership.
Demonstrating a complete lack of interest in peace, the TPLF has resumed forcing local citizens into military training camps.
This dangerous mobilization directly threatens to plunge the region back into a vicious cycle of suffering and warfare.
The severe oppression and coercion currently imposed on the population have effectively shattered any hopes for a swift economic and social recovery from the previous war.
This unlawful military preparation and aggressive posture represent more than a regional threat; they constitute a direct declaration of war against the peace, security, and sovereignty of Ethiopia as a whole.
By actively undermining the progress achieved so far, the group’s actions jeopardize the collective well-being of all Ethiopian citizens.
By violating the terms of the Pretoria Peace Agreement and abandoning the peaceful transition process, the TPLF has once again chosen the path of armed confrontation.
This irresponsible trajectory poses an existential threat to national security and regional stability, highlighting the urgent need for international accountability and a renewed commitment to lasting peace.
