Ethiopian Airlines’ inaugural passenger flight receives ceremonial welcome in Hyderabad
Addis Ababa, June 17, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Airlines’ first passenger flight to Hyderabad, India, received a warm and ceremonial welcome upon landing in the city, marking a celebratory start to the airline’s latest connection in South Asia, our correspondent reported today from Hyderabad.
The inaugural flight, which departed from Addis Ababa, was greeted in Hyderabad with a traditional water cannon salute and a festive reception attended by local officials, airport representatives, and members of the diplomatic and aviation communities.
The arrival was further enriched by cultural performances and ceremonial exchanges, reflecting the deepening ties between Africa and India.
Hyderabad, popularly known as the “City of Pearls,” is the sixth Indian destination served by Ethiopian Airlines. The launch of the new thrice-weekly passenger service had earlier been marked with a vibrant send-off ceremony at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport.
The new route is expected to enhance connectivity between East Africa and southern India, catering to rising demand for travel in the business, tourism, and diaspora segments. The warm reception in Hyderabad underscores the city’s enthusiasm to strengthen partnerships with Africa and welcome Ethiopian Airlines as a key player in this endeavor.
