Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Joins Fellow BRICS Leaders for 18th Annual Summit in New Delhi

Addis Ababa, September 12, 2026 (FMC) — Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in New Delhi, India, to join fellow BRICS leaders and other heads of government for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit.

The summit is being held under India’s 2026 chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” reflecting the grouping’s focus on strengthening cooperation and advancing shared priorities amid a rapidly changing global environment.

Led by Prime Minister Abiy, the Ethiopian delegation is also expected to hold bilateral discussions on the margins of the summit, providing an opportunity to advance Ethiopia’s diplomatic and economic engagements with participating countries.

The 18th BRICS Summit brings together the expanded BRICS membership to discuss issues of common interest and cooperation, with the two-day gathering taking place in New Delhi on September 12–13.
