Chelsea to wear “World Champions” badge for the next four years after historic Club World Cup triumph

Addis Ababa, July 14, 2025 (FMC) — Chelsea FC have been crowned the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup champions after a commanding 3–0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Sunday night’s final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Cole Palmer starred with two goals, while new signing Joao Pedro added a third to secure Chelsea’s dominant win. PSG’s Portuguese midfielder Joao Neves was sent off late in the game, reducing the French side to ten men and ending their hopes of a comeback.

Chelsea delivered a near-flawless performance in front of a global audience and high-level dignitaries — including U.S. President Donald Trump and several international officials — to secure the most prestigious title in club football outside the UEFA Champions League.

With this triumph, Chelsea become the first club to win the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup, and they will now wear the “World Champions” badge on their kits for the next four years — until the tournament’s next edition in 2029.

Chelsea’s strong run through the tournament has earned them a staggering $125 million in total prize money.

This sum includes earnings for group stage wins, progression through knockout rounds, a finalist bonus, and the $40 million champion bonus. Runners-up PSG also walk away with an impressive sum, estimated at just over $85 million, based on their performance throughout the tournament.

Under manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea executed their game plan to perfection.

The team controlled possession, disrupted PSG’s rhythm, and transitioned fluidly between defense and attack. Cole Palmer’s composure and creativity, combined with Joao Pedro’s dynamic movement, proved too much for the French champions, who were denied both space and chances.

The red card to Joao Neves further underlined PSG’s frustration on a night when Chelsea were simply unstoppable.

The 2025 edition marked the first iteration of the expanded Club World Cup, featuring 32 teams and a format modeled after the FIFA World Cup.

The tournament brought together continental champions and high-ranking clubs from across the globe. Chelsea’s emphatic victory not only secures their place in football history but also sets a high standard for future editions.
