PM Abiy Pledges Continued Urban Transformation as Half of Addis Corridor Plan Completed
Addis Ababa, August 30, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has praised the progress of Addis Ababa’s corridor development program, describing it as a transformative initiative reshaping the capital’s infrastructure, creating jobs, and enhancing urban accessibility.
The Prime Minister, joined by senior government officials, today inspected the newly completed Addis International Convention Center–Goro–VIP Airport corridor. The 12.74-kilometer route is part of the citywide program that began with four corridors in its first phase and expanded to eight in the second.
The corridor integrates more than 29 kilometers of pedestrian walkways and 15.27 kilometers of dedicated cycling lanes. It also includes expanded roadways, a new alternative link from Goro to Bole International Airport, and riverside redevelopment. Complementing the transport upgrades, the project features seven sports centers, car parks, taxi and bus terminals, cafés, restaurants, public toilets, and other public facilities.
Abiy said the development has improved accessibility and service provision while generating employment opportunities, noting that it reflects “a different vision and a renewed work culture” shaping Ethiopia’s urban transformation.
“Ethiopia continues to expand in every sphere. Our journey toward prosperity will not face hurdles or come to a halt,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
He further noted that while nearly half of Addis Ababa has been addressed so far through the corridor program, the government remains committed to extending similar transformations across the rest of the city.
