Caribbean Leaders Arrive in Addis Ababa Ahead of Landmark Africa-CARICOM Summit
Addis Ababa, September 6, 2025 (FMC) — Leaders from Caribbean nations are arriving in Addis Ababa to participate in the Second Africa-CARICOM Summit, set to take place on 7 September in Ethiopia’s capital.
Heads of State and Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), alongside the CARICOM Secretary-General and other regional and international representatives, will join their African counterparts to strengthen cooperation between the two regions.
Among the Caribbean dignitaries arriving today are Prime Minister Gaston Alphonso Browne of Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis of The Bahamas, Prime Minister Ralph E. Gonsalves of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados. Earlier this morning, Prime Minister Terrance Michael Drew of Saint Kitts and Nevis also arrived in Addis Ababa.
High-level Ethiopian officials welcomed the visiting leaders at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, reflecting the warm diplomatic ties between Africa and the Caribbean.
The Summit is expected to host presidents of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, as well as the heads of the African and Caribbean Development Banks and Afreximbank. Representatives from the African Union, the United Nations, and other international organizations will also participate.
Ahead of the Summit, the African Union Commission will convene a high-level side event on 6 September, focusing on reparations, memory, and sovereignty. In parallel, Ministers of Health from African and Caribbean nations will meet for a joint session co-hosted by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, the African Union Commission, CARICOM, and HeDPAC
