Ethiopian Airlines Focuses on Human Resource Development to Sustain Global Leadership

Addis Ababa, September 20, 2025 (FMC) – Ethiopian Airlines is placing human resource development at the core of its strategy to maintain and strengthen its global reputation, Ethiopian Airlines Group Board Chairman Lt. Gen. Yilma Merdasa emphasized.

Over a thousand aviation professionals graduated today from Ethiopian Aviation University in a vibrant ceremony attended by Lt. Gen. Yilma, Group CEO Mesfin Tasew, senior executives, and families of the graduates.

The new graduates represent a diverse range of disciplines, including Pilot, Cabin Crew, Aircraft Maintenance, Marshalling & Aerobridge, and various Commercial and Ground Services programs.

In his keynote address, Lt. Gen. Yilma, who also serves as Ethiopian Air Force Commander, stressed that the airline is committed to strengthening its position as a leading global carrier through continuous efforts across all operational areas. He underscored that developing a skilled workforce remains a top priority for the airline.

“Beyond cultivating highly qualified Ethiopian professionals, we are proud to contribute to the global aviation community by training experts from other countries,” he added.

Highlighting the ongoing reforms and transformation in Ethiopia, Lt. Gen. Yilma noted that Ethiopian Airlines must accelerate its human resource development to remain ahead in the competitive aviation sector.

Echoing this, CEO Mesfin Tasew noted that the airline has earned international acclaim for its operational excellence and intends to further expand its leadership role in African aviation by training thousands of skilled professionals annually.

Addressing the graduates, CEO Mesfin encouraged them to continuously enhance their skills and adapt to the evolving needs of the aviation industry, urging them to take pride in contributing to Africa’s largest airline and one of the world’s premier carriers.
