World Atomic Week Forum Opens in Moscow

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2025 (FMC) — The international forum World Atomic Week (WAW), the largest event dedicated to nuclear and related industries, opened today in Moscow, Russia, according to a report by Sputnik.

The four-day event, running from September 25 to 28 at Rosatom’s pavilions in the VDNKh exhibition and amusement park, coincides with the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry.

Organizers describe the forum as the world’s largest platform for dialogue on nuclear energy, technological innovation, and peaceful cooperation.

Some 20,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected, including government leaders, ministers, business executives, scientists, leading media representatives, students, and senior officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Nuclear Association (WNA), and the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to address the forum on Thursday morning, highlighting Russia’s contributions to global nuclear cooperation and the future of the industry, the Kremlin confirmed. Following the event, he is expected to meet with several foreign leaders, to discuss bilateral and regional issues.

High-level participants attending the opening include Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Myanmar’s Acting President Min Aung Hlaing, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi, as well as delegations from Iran, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Niger, and several specialized international organizations.

The forum, hosted by Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, is designed to foster collaboration among countries developing nuclear programs and to provide a platform for experts and industry leaders to share knowledge and advances in nuclear technology.
