PM Abiy Ahmed attends World Atomic Week conference in Moscow

Addis Ababa, September 25, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is participating in the World Atomic Week (WAW) forum, the largest international event dedicated to nuclear and related industries, which opened today in Moscow, Russia.

The four-day forum, running from September 25 to 28 at Rosatom’s pavilions in the VDNKh exhibition and amusement park, marks the 80th anniversary of Russia’s nuclear industry and serves as a global platform for dialogue on nuclear energy, technological innovation, and peaceful cooperation.

Social media posts from the Office of the Prime Minister show that several Ethiopian ministers accompanied PM Abiy Ahmed to Russia, highlighting Ethiopia’s commitment to engaging in international energy and nuclear development initiatives.

The event is hosting some 20,000 participants from over 100 countries, including government leaders, ministers, business executives, scientists, media representatives, students, and senior officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the World Nuclear Association (WNA), and the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO).

High-level participants at the opening include Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Myanmar’s Acting President Min Aung Hlaing, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi, as well as delegations from Iran, Uzbekistan, Egypt, Niger, and several specialized international organizations.

Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the forum on Thursday, highlighting Russia’s contributions to global nuclear cooperation and the future of the industry, and subsequently held bilateral meetings with several foreign leaders to discuss regional and international matters.

Hosted by Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, the forum aims to foster collaboration among countries developing nuclear programs and provides a platform for experts and industry leaders to share knowledge and advances in nuclear technology.
