PM Abiy: Ethiopia Advancing Toward Renewal Through Unity, Cooperation, and National Resolve
Addis Ababa, December 8, 2025 (FMC) — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said Ethiopia is advancing toward national renewal across social, economic, and political dimensions, emphasizing the importance of unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility in securing the country’s prosperity.

The Prime Minister delivered his remarks in Hosa’ena, Central Ethiopia Region, during the 20th Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day celebration under the theme “Democratic Consensus for National Unity.”
The event brought together senior federal officials, regional administrators, city mayors, foreign diplomats, and representatives of Ethiopia’s diverse nations and nationalities.
Abiy highlighted that Ethiopia is undergoing comprehensive transformation. Cities are expanding, rural communities are overcoming historical challenges, and historical and cultural heritage sites are being revitalized, reflecting both national pride and continental significance.
He noted that Ethiopia is harnessing its agricultural, mineral, tourism, and technological potential, with an emphasis on shifting from traditional rain-fed agriculture to year-round irrigation to ensure food sovereignty.
The Prime Minister stressed that prosperity is neither automatic nor simple. He underlined the importance of collective work, noting that individual effort alone is insufficient, and invoked a metaphor of a rope: while one thread is weak, many threads woven together form an unbreakable bond.
Ethiopia’s advancement, he said, depends on citizens working together, embracing mutual respect, equality, and shared responsibility.

PM Abiy also emphasized that the current generation bears the responsibility of safeguarding the freedom inherited from past generations and transforming it into lasting progress and stability for the nation.
He called on Ethiopians to view each other as equals, strengthen bonds of brotherhood, and work diligently to pass on a prosperous and advanced country to future generations.
Acknowledging the challenges Ethiopia faces, the Prime Minister said the country possesses vast untapped potential, which must be fully utilized.
He noted that while external and internal forces may attempt to undermine progress, no provocation, harassment, or ill intent can halt the nation’s development if citizens remain united and focused on national interests.
He urged the public to distinguish between the interests of the country and destructive agendas, warning against being manipulated by those seeking to destabilize Ethiopia’s growth.
Premier Abiy called for institutional strengthening, anti-corruption measures, modernization, and turning obstacles into opportunities as essential elements for achieving sustainable development and shared prosperity.
The Prime Minister concluded that Ethiopia’s renewal relies on unity, cooperation, and commitment to collective work. By building on inherited freedoms, harnessing potential, and embracing equality and mutual respect, the country can secure enduring progress and leave a stable, prosperous nation for future generations.
