Shared legacy of resilience and uncolonized history defines Ethiopia–Liberia relations — PM Abiy
Addis Ababa, April 14, 2026 (FMC) – Ethiopia and Liberia’s long-standing relations are defined by a shared legacy of resilience and a common history of remaining uncolonized, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) said following a reception ceremony held in Addis Ababa for President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of the Republic of Liberia.
President Boakai arrived in Addis Ababa last night for an official working visit to Ethiopia and was formally received at the National Palace today.
In a social media message after the ceremony, Prime Minister Abiy described it as his “distinct honour” to welcome the Liberian President, underscoring the distinguished and historic relations between the two countries.
He emphasized that Ethiopia and Liberia share a unique historical trajectory, rooted in resilience and independence, noting that both nations remained uncolonized and played pioneering roles in advocating for the independence and unity of the African continent.
“Ethiopia and Liberia share longstanding and distinguished relations, rooted in a common history of resilience, having remained uncolonized, and in their pioneering roles as steadfast advocates for the independence and unity of the African continent,” the Prime Minister stated.
PM Abiy further highlighted Ethiopia’s commitment to open and constructive engagement, stating that Ethiopia’s “table remains open and expansive,” offering its potential and enduring friendship to partners who walk alongside it.
He expressed confidence that the visit would mark a significant milestone in bilateral relations, strengthening cooperation and anchoring shared aspirations in concrete action.
